August 12 - Dress Form and Dress Shirt
I wasn't sure I would want to be in the sewing room today, so didn't plan anything. But, after a great check up at the doctor and a lovely lunch with hubby I thought I would head in there and see what I might do. First thing I did was to pad my dress form so it was a better reflection of my shape. When I put the twin set on it, it showed a big difference in the fit and I am very happy with what I learned at the ASG conference on fitting the dress form. Nice.
I decided I might as well try the PerfectFuse LIGHT interfacing on a shirt for hubby. He wants a dress shirt to wear his cuff links with, as most all of his have buttons and he enjoys wearing his links. So I was able to cut out the shirt and fuse the collar and collar band. I will do the cuffs and down the front band tomorrow. I do enjoy making men's shirts and since I have a book that goes into all the details that are tricky, it is a fairly satisfying effort. I sure do like the idea that they fit nicely and are well made. Shirts are tricky. They look simple, but they are NOT!

August 7 - Finished a shirt
Finished hubby's bow tie shirt.
I am always so pleased when I get the front bands and pocket lines up perfectly.
August 6 - Started a shirt
I used LIGHT in the collar and front band.
We will see how it holds up over time.
It surely does make the collar lay nicely.

August 2 - Not much sewing
When the grandson comes to visit, it is all about him. Fun, and snuggles.
I did get into the sewing room for a bit of time in the evening. I practiced another fabric flower for the potential of a greater variety of shapes on my dress. I also planned out a top I am going to make. The volcano fabric was from the ASG conference, along with the matchstick fabric and pattern. Something totally new. My son-in-law is also interested in having a hat, so I started his. He and hubby wear the same size, so that will be easy. Love hats, want EVERYONE to wear them. Let's protect our heads and faces from that sun!

August 1 - Fabric Roses
My own personal National Sewing Month has begun. One thing to look forward to at this time of year (the dog days of summer, which Texas is happily sharing with the rest of the nation) is to STAY IN and SEW! Moms and Dads are getting the kiddos organized for school, shopping and running off on last minute vacations. Work folks are gearing up for a busy fall. Football is on the minds of many, and I am sure stores are rummaging around in back for their Christmas trees. But for me . . . . SEWING!
First, I did have to get the back to school box sent off to the grand children with some back to school cookies. This is one of my favorite designs, a sand dollar. I also packed some for my brother, some for a new neighbor, some for a friend and some for my oldest who is coming to visit tomorrow. That took a while. Then there was laundry, clearing out stuff we didn't want any more, errands, grocery and reading a book from the library to get done before it is due.
Cookies ready to pack up.
But I did get some sewing done.
I figured out how to get the dent out of my fascinator base.
I also decided what I might want to do with
the beautiful purple linen I got at the ASG conference.
First I practiced with paper.
Then I practiced with fabric.
Turned out pretty well. I think I will use the design on the front of the book as well, and fabricate some leaves. Not sure how I will apply them to the dress, but I do know they will trail down and be different sizes. For now I will need to pre-wash the fabric, make a few and applique them on. Wash them to see how they will hold up and pick buttons!
Didn't get much done, but at least got started on my personal August Sewing Retreat.
Tomorrow it is Gare Bear Day! Fun for Grandmother and Grandfather. I am sure I will get something done in the sewing room at some point. We'll see. Wouldn't miss our time with the G-man for anything. Growing like a weed!

Relay for Life
Some of our Relayers.
I am a life long Jazzerciser, starting in 1979 and even Jazzercised overseas. Our group participated in a Relay for Life and raised an amazing $4000 plus! I just wanted to remember. It was a fun event. Hubby got a luminary for me and I took a picture of one of our friends luminary who went through lymphoma treatment shortly after I did my leukemia treatment. We are both in remission!
We had a LOT of luminary out there. Hubby's parents, my dad and many friends and relatives that have fought the fight. Someday I hope to not learn of any new folks who need prayed for. Don't like cancer, what it to go away. Why I did the Relay. I personally only managed 14 laps that evening, it had been a long day. Would have LOVED to have walked for the whole event.

D's visit -MONDAY
I am so happy I heard about a place near us, 7 Acre Wood. That was the destination and start to Monday. The perfect place for a little guy to explore, play and let loose.
A fun day with Grandfather
D had a boat in his backyard, but this one is bigger!
Climbing and hanging, two things D does excel at.
Giant games!
Being silly with dad.
In jail in the Old Western Town.
Some sort of spinning bar that D mastered.
More climbing.
Feeding the goats.
Meeting the baby goats. SO much cuter when they are little.
Tether ball with Grandfather.
Zip lining, kid size.
Pogo sticking.
Basketballing.
Putt putting.
Climbing again.
Grandfather as a girl!
It was a fun place.
We then headed back to our neighborhood. I had been telling D about a trick our community tried to play on people. They got me with it when I first saw it, but D was not quite as gullible. He noticed right away it wasn't real.
Watching the fish in the little river.
Walking to the ice cream store.
Gummy bears take a LONG time to chew when they are in ice cream. So cold, so chewy.
D found out we had a 99 cent store in our area.
He loves to shop there, so we ran by.
He got pom poms. He is really interested in Cheerleading and will make a great one!
Some bike riding with Grandfather.
Another park.
More hanging.
D discovered a bunny in the woods near the park.
Another park, #3 for the day.
A 4th park!
D discovered a Bottle Brush Tree, he was fascinated.
We fixed D's favorite dinner, chicken and sweet potato.
Then out back for another marshmallow roast.
Such a special day with Grandfather.
I think D could do this day over and over.
I love D.
I am exhausted!
